4 Tips For Designing a Clean-Looking Website

Web designers are big proponents of the ‘less is more’ philosophy. In custom website design, minimalism is a great driver of improved functionality, as well as an altogether pleasing navigational experience. So it’s easy to see why we believe it’s a crucial focal point in the design of a website.
Here are five tips to help design a cleaner-looking website, from your favorite Miami web design team.
- Only the Essentials – You may be tempted to add in a few extra design elements or additional navigational links. Don’t. Include only what you need and leave lots of white space. If it’s not immediately obvious to the visitor what they should be looking at, they’re a lot less likely to stay on your site. This is particularly important in the realm of ecommerce, as sales can literally go down the drain if clutter gets in the way of the sales funnel.
- Basic Color Schemes – Even a so-called ‘clean’ site can get mucked up with the inclusion of too many colors, either as a poorly conceived color scheme, or because of an overload of borders and gradients. Sticking with black and white and then a simple two-color scheme, for example, is a good guiding principle as you get started.
- Easy Navigation – Dumb it down, then dumb it down again. The fewer navigation panels that you have on your site, the easier it will be for user’s to find their way around, even if it’s simply because they aren’t intimidated by all of the links. Give it a first effort, organize your content pages accordingly, then revisit the navigation again to see if it’s really as easy as possible.
- Kill Redundancies – Consistency is also crucial to the design of a clean-looking website. Remember to utilize similar effects – forms, buttons, fonts, etc. – all throughout the site. Visually, your website design will be easier to digest. It’ll look better, too, and also aid in the consistency of your branding efforts.
